what i've learned in motherhood
calling up teenage girls you don’t know is very awkward especially when their mom wants to talk to you. i always feel like i’m in trouble. and finding someone you trust enough to leave them with your precious little baby whose life is more important than your own is incredibly hard.

what i've learned in motherhood
everybody wants to hurry up and be back to their pre-pregnancy weight and wearing their pre-pregnancy clothes as soon as their baby is out those two things don’t always go together. most of us get to make our way back to pre-pregnancy weight but the clothes don’t necessarily fit. everything is in different places, different shapes. it’s your mom-body. embrace it.

what i've learned in motherhood
Carters runs smaller than other mainstream brands, the Target Circo stuff fits similarly Zutano runs small/lean Baby Gap is lean but can sometimes be short too Gymboree runs HUGE, “it’s generously sized” as the sales girl clarified and some baby stuff will just never fit your baby because its either cut so wide it looks like a potato sack but so short it’s cutting into...

scene: mom in CT just called me
mom: so, are you guys prepared for the hurricane?
me: yah. we're not really gonna get hit here in Richmond too bad, not like where we lived earlier this year in Tidewater.
mom: do you have a generator?
me: no, we're good. we always have emergency supplies and i'll be shocked if we lose power. it's gonna hit up there harder than where i am, are you prepared for the storm?
mom: yah, i already went to the store and picked up a can of deviled ham.
me: ... ... ....

A Letter
Dear Carters stores, it seems as though your store planning department isn’t aware who your target audience is. you may want to call a meeting and brief them on this. i’ve personally left the store frustrated and empty-handed on more than one occasion because you don’t have enough space between racks for me to jam my stroller through and i’m not just going to leave my sleeping baby and...

what i've learned in motherhood
have infant Tylenol on hand BEFORE you go to the Dr for your first round of shots (some Docs thats 1mos, others its 2mos) they’ll likely run a fever afterward and the last thing you’ll want to do is stroll the aisles of Target trying to find this stuff with a screaming baby running a low grade fever in tow

what i've learned in motherhood
i have so many things i’ve learned (most the hard way) that i figured i should start sharing whether you care or not this week i learned that rice cereal is binding sweet potatoes are binding feeding your son sweet potatoes with rice cereal will not make him happy after a day or so because, well, he’s all “bound up” i also learned that pears and/or prunes will unbind...

]]> judiism replied to your photo: i’ve always been a big fan of cartoons that… mo willems is awesome - check out ‘the pigeon’ series, they’re all pretty amusing, too. i bought the Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog book the moment i saw it - i mean, c’mon, a children’s book about how awesome hot dogs are?! it’s like it was written specifically for my progeny.

post pregnancy TMI
i was recently making a list of all of the things i found extremely helpful once my baby was here for a preggo friend (mostly things i learned from other people that made total sense but never occured to me) when i realized i should also add this: your boobs shrink after you breastfeed. i don’t mean they go down from their enlarged pregnancy/full o’ milk size, i mean they shrink - as...

most of you won't read this
but there are a few of you out there who are curious about other people’s breastfeeding stories so i guess this one’s for you folk (i keep putting this Read More break in but it keeps disappearing, sorry if this post becomes dash spam) when it all first started i thought i’d post about it for sure. i mean there are so many in-your-face things about how “breast is...

Update: travel pee tips
I ended up using variations of some methods suggested - when he was awake I simply grabbed him, put a paper toilet seat on, watched it go down the auto flush before I could get my pants unzipped, re-paper seated and moved as fast as possible and the baby just sat on my knee. there were enough new sights and sounds that he didn’t squirm at all - when he was sleeping I brought the whole car seat...

any travel pee tips?
i’m taking a road trip with Roger, just him and me, and what i thought about the other day that has me concerned is - how do i go to the bathroom? is it even possible to hold a squirmy infant while you use the restroom? do i need to keep him in his seat and use the handicap stall that’s big enough to set the carseat in? (the thought of this makes me cringe - oh the germs!!) or do i...

our 4 month Dr’s appointment went WONDERFULLY! tremendous bill of health from the Doc and he had nothing but great things to say about his development and the signs that he’s showing for future development (namely his interest in communication and language) the shots went… meh. he didn’t cry as hard in the that hurts! way but this was more of a loud ow that hurts why the...

WTF Chik Fil A?!
i go to the one around the corner from me often, i’m a big fan of your milkshakes and waffles fries. but a milkshake and waffles fries does not a lunch make. so sometimes i add in a chicken sammie for good measure, i mean hey i like pickles and buttered toast as much as the next girl and that’s all your chicken sandwiches are. but i’ve about had it with getting home only to...
